Controversial Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been on the spot over graft and abuse of office allegations.
The governor’s lavish Runda and Garden Estate homes were on Thursday morning ransacked shortly after the office of the auditor general found his county’s budget allocation to be dubious.
On May 2 this year, questions arose over the Kiambu County Government’s alleged allocation of Ksh.1 billion to functions of the national government.
The Auditor General revealed that the county had budgeted for State House functions, benefits for retired presidents, Free Primary Education and the South Sudan peace program.
Similarly, a separate case that was presented to Justice James Makau on May 8, indicated that the Kiambu County Government admitted to not following proper procedure in making a supplementary budget seeking Ksh.16.5 billion for the current financial year.
This sparked rage from the county’s residents who claimed that the governor has had no significant impact in the county over his tenure. The youth in particular took to the streets, to demand that he steps out of office.
The residents in their protests (video below) claimed that the governor only spends time on women and stealing money.
Waititu however disputes the claims, saying that political opponents are using propaganda to “corner” him.
“I want to believe that this report (audit report) was not interfered with by anybody to put in those things so that when I come here I will be cornered the way you’re cornering me,” said Waititu.
A probe into his lavish lifestyle was also raised, but the governor responded that he has worked for the money he has.
Governor Waititu has on his social media allayed his supposed county projects, including road constructions and health projects.
