Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu was arrested and presented to EACC for interrogation on the loss of multi-million deals among them Kaa Sober program.

A source familiar with development states that that, Waititu had a brief conversation with the officers where he told them that his arrest is political as he hasn’t mismanaged the resources as alleged.

“Hii Mambo yote mimi nayajua sana, I haven’t committed any crime but all this will withering,” Waititu said.

He further tried to make numerous calls to secure his release.

Recently Kiambu Deputy Governor James Nyoro accused his boss, Governor Ferdinand Waititu, of presiding over a corrupt and an incompetent administration that has been allegedly milking the county treasury dry.

Mr. Nyoro said further said that Mr. Waititu is running a county as a one-man show and told him to top politicizing the audit report, which put him in the spotlight last week, with the help of “outsiders” and instead waits for a special audit ordered by the Senate to clear him.

During the arrest, Waititu accused Nyoro and former Kiambu governor William Kabogo of being behind his woes.

Recently Waititu failed to convince the Senate committee on how he allocated money to fund mission in South Sudan among others.

According to Mr Nyoro, some of the issues that need to be probed include the controversial rehabilitation program dubbed Kaa sober, which was gobbling up Sh2 million daily without the approval of the county assembly, an alleged illegal transfer of grants amounting to over Sh1 billion shillings and stalled projects.

“Let’s wait for a special audit to empirically provide evidence for the issues that we are talking about including the stalled projects, Kaa sober and World Bank money. Let’s not politicize the issue,” Mr. Nyoro said during an interview on Citizen TV Monday morning.

Also, Waititu said that he hasn’t committed any crime and he is being hunted for the wrong reason.

Speaking to NTV on Tuesday, May 7, Mwaura said the allegations against Waititu over misappropriation of public money was nothing but a true manifestation of what he had told him during the campaign season.

“I was shocked one day when we were with him at the parliamentary gym and he told me ‘Mwaura, when we get into government we must steal because even Raila stole KSh 3.4 billion under the Kazi Kwa Vijana initiative’, by the way, it is that point that I disagreed with him,” the senator claimed.
