Details of secret lifestyle audit that EACC was doing on Waititu

Image result for ferdinand waitituKiambu governors arrest has brought in fresh details that have been ongoing in secret by a multi-agency team that reports directly to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

It is alleged that Waititu was been closely been monitored by the EACC over claims of acquiring mass welth in the city of Nairobi and other regions in the country since he took over the governorship of Kiambu county.

The commission has been conducting a secret lifestyle audit on Waititu and says they have gathered crucial information that they are now using as the basis of their investigations.

During a Thursday dawn raid operation in his two homes one in Runda, Kiambu and Garden estate, they ransacked every corner for documents.

Sources from public officers who have recently fallen under the EACC radar tell of a covert operation, from how one is picked up till they are delivered to highly secure residences, where the panel of interrogators operate from.

Those who have endured the grilling say an individual is called and asked to report to a specific place armed only with his/her national identity card. There does not appear to be a specific schedule for calling, as the summons are seemingly made at random.

The team comprises of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Director of Criminal Investigations, Anti-Money Laundering Unit, the Asset Recovery Agency, Banking Fraud Investigation unit, Financial Reporting Centre, Kenya Revenue Authority, Cyber-Crime Unit and Anti-Counterfeit Agency.

Waititu owns a five-storey building which hosts the Delta Hotel along University Way and Jamii Bora Building on Koinange Street.

But questions persist over the source of his millions, yet he is in office as Governor of Kiambu only a few months old.

It is claimed the value of the two buildings is close to Sh2 billion, with Delta Hotel costing Sh800 million, Jamii Bora is valued at about Sh1 billion.

Waititu defended his new founded wealth saying: “I want people to know that even before venturing into politics 20 years ago as a councillor, I was already driving a Mercedes and a Range Rover, besides owning a palatial home in Nairobi and operating a fleet of 25 lorries.”

KRA is also investigating if he has paid his taxes in the past years. Waititu has denied claims of corruption and insisted his property was legally acquired.
