The security coordinator Ann Ng’etich has confirmed the arrest of 15 suspects in connection with Matungu killings. She has expressed confidence that progress is being made by their on going investigations
Citizens have since expressed that would the government involve them in the operation, the crimes would end lamenting over deployment of officers from other regions to solve different area crimes revealing that they get hindered by hostility.
They have also stated the lack of logic in the number of police officers that guard a region claiming that fewer number of officers are delegated large masses to protect hindering proper security services from the men in uniform.

The infamous Matungu killings left 20 people dead within two months and 50 others with severe injuries.The most affected areas are Mayoni, Lubanga, Mung’ungu, Munami, Ejinja, Ogalo, Lung’anyiro, Harambe, Sayangwe and Koyonzo.
Touring the troubled region, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’í announced a security clean-up exercise in Matungu, saying the government will stick to the same style it used in Mt Elgon.
He told residents to prepare for a major security operation targeting criminal gangs raiding homes at night and viciously attacking villagers.
Dr Matiang’í said the government has deployed the paramilitary GSU to hunt down criminals following the brutal killings
