The English Premier League is undoubtedly the most watched league in the world and also has some of the best Players in the globe. The league also proudly posses the best two managers in the world at the moment in Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool and Pep Guardiola of Manchester city while you could make a strong case of Mauricio Pochettino being the third.

The strength of the league is illustrated by the fact that all four teams in the two European finals this season are from England. Chelsea and Arsenal will play each other in the Europa League final while Liverpool will play their second successive Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspurs in Madrid.

However, the league is also littered with claims of corruption and illegal dealings especially from the owners of the clubs.

For instance, Arsenal’s majority shareholder, Stan Kroenke, has previously come under fire for launching a new bloodsports television channel that will show regular hunting programmes that includes killing elephants, lions and other vulnerable African species.

One programme showed a presenter shooting a critically endangered African elephant before the bull turns and charges at him. Two more shots are heard before the animal falls to the ground and dies.

Another show, called Dark Continent Quest, features huntress Jana Waller and her travels across the world killing animals with a bow and arrow. One episode shows the cast killing a hartebeest in South Africa, with the arrow hitting the animal before it runs away. They then wait for the animal to bleed to death before approaching it.

Manchester City’s recently won the domestic treble and have accumulated 198 points in the last 2 season but that would never have been possible without the money from their owner Shekih Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan who is the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and half brother of current UAE President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nayhan.

He is also Minister of Presidential Affairs in the UAE and a member of the Abu Dhabi Royal Family – his father was the Emir of Abu Dhabi HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Ak Nahyan.

Manchester City have so much money that they can even afford to buy two full backs for a 1oo million British pounds. It is exactly why they are under investigation from UEFA for breaching the Financial Fair play rules. Should they be found guilty, Pep Guardiola’s side could be banned from participating in the Champions League next season.

In more surprising developments Sheffield United, promoted to the Premier League this season, was accused of holding investment discussions with a Saudi businessman related to the late terrorist Osama bin Laden.

So while the English Premier League is all glitter and gold, some of the scenes behind its flashy nature are as dark as night!
