Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s disputes with health staff seem to have taken a toll as the medics have now issued a 7-day strike notice.
The health staff, especially those from the Kerugoya County Referral Hospital have for weeks now been in an altercation with the governor after she sacked 346 casual workers from the facility.
The health staff, complaining that the reduced number of casual workers has led to the contraction of diseases by some of their colleagues threatened to strike.
They have seemingly made good their threat, accusing the Kirinyaga leadership of failing to address their plight.

This is despite Waiguru dismissing the threats as political propaganda, vowing to take disciplinary action upon the striking medics.
Kirinyagas wage bill is 46% of its revenue. That must change if we will see meaningful progress. We therefore refuse to be derailed by political shenanigans of those inciting staff to go on a go-slow citing removal of casual workers.#KirinyagaRising pic.twitter.com/k6sLv9sG3n

Speaking to the press, Ms Waiguru further claimed that politicians eyeing her seat in 2022 were using the officials to mess up the sector.
“Investigations by the taskforce which I had formed has revealed sabotage and we shall deal ruthlessly with those responsible,” she said.
The health staff on the other hand claim that two of them have contracted Hepatitis B due to working in the unhygienic conditions.
