Mudavadi seeks to outshine Raila, meets Kikuyu elders

Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi is today meeting Central Kenya elders in what looks like a clear scheme for region’s support ahead of 2022 presidential elections.

Mudavadi is meeting the elders at the home of Hon Mzee Nginyo Kariuki in Tigoni, Limuru Constituency at 12:00 pm and has invited the media through a press invite shared to newsrooms on Monday.

Some Kenyans have however faulted Mudavadi’s move to publicly announce his meeting, arguing that such events are secretly planned and the press invited quietly without catching public’s attention.

This is not the first time Mudavadi is going fishing in Central Kenya ahead of 2022.

Mudavadi, a former vice president and deputy Prime Minister, has visited Murang’a and Kiambu counties four times in two months last year, and held talks with people close to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The speculation about Mudavadi began on November 3, when President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nyeri declared that his choice of a successor in 2022 will be a “shocker”, a statement that unsettled Deputy President William Ruto’s supporters in the region and in his Rift Valley backyard.

Strategic deliberations have been going on behind the scenes with Mudavadi, seen as a likely compromise presidential candidate in the 2022 succession race, burning the midnight oil to identify a suitable partner from Mount Kenya.

Do you think the talks with Central Kenya elders will revolve around finding a suitable partner for him?
