Why police officers have been mandated to enter & drive any vehicle

The department of Kenya Police Service have issued a new announcement regarding traffic laws meant to regulate road indiscipline by motorists.

Emphasis on weight addition to Traffic Act(CAP 403) on inspection of vehicles has been sensitised. The body has articulated  that it shall be lawful for any police officer in uniform to stop any vehicle and for any police officer be it a licensing officer or inspector to enter any vehicle.

Perhaps you have seen these men in uniform always enter and alight any of our matatus at their pleasure, in case its been crisscrossing your mind why well now you know its in accordance to the law.

The officers have also been mandated to enter any vehicle, drive them or cause any vehicle to be driven.

In any case if they obtain reasonable suspicion of any offences under this Act, they can order and will require the owner of any vehicle to take the vehicle to them.

To those who will not comply with these rule, they shall b guilty of an offence and will be liable on a first conviction , to fine not exceeding thirty thousand shillings, and for a second or subsequent conviction, fine not exceeding fifty thousand shillings or to imprisonment for term of one year.
