Nyeri couple in love scandal engage in fight that kills wife

A scuffle between a Nyeri couple ended on a bad note as a man ended up killing his wife over a love triangle mishap.

According to a witness, the couple were often happy together and shocked neighbours as the events unfolded on the fateful night.

The Nyeri High Court on Wednesday heard that wife, Nancy Muthoni’s body was found lying in a pool of blood at 6 a.m. after neighbours heard commotion from their house. Husband Evans Chumba being the main suspect.

Chomba is said to have been woken up by strange sounds coming from the room where the wife was to find her with an alleged lover, Githaiga, in a brawl.

In his statement, Chomba stated that he accidentally hit his wife with a broom he was aiming at Githaiga when she tried to separate them as they engaged in a physical fight. During cross-examination by the defense lawyer, the assistant Chief, however, said he found no such item at the scene. His statement also contradicted with Githaiga’s account that Chomba pushed his wife against a wall where she slipped and fell on her back.

According to the Assistant Chief, the couple did not have any domestic issues and all seemed good.

Chomba denied the charges.

The hearing will proceed on June 27, when the doctor who carried out the postmortem examination will testify.
