Germany and Man City midfielder, Gundogan issue a statement on his future at the club

Manchester City’s midfielder, Ilkay Gundoganhas come out open to say he is keen to re-open talks with Manchester City over a new contract.

This comes barely a year after the midfielder was offered a new deal at the Etihad earlier in the season but decided against signing amid City’s Premier League retention bid and concerns over playing time.

Gundogan, 28-year-old who started 13 of City’s final 14 league games and scored in the final-day victory against Brighton that secured the Blues’ maiden league title defence says he is now ready to commit his future to the club as he comes to the end of his contract the club.

“Now is enough time to reflect on the situation and to take up the talks again more intensely with the club,” the Germany international told Bild.

City became the first team in the history of English men’s football to win a domestic treble of trophies, but Gundogan says his teammates remain hungry for Champions League success after the Blues were knocked out at the quarter-final stage of the second season running with defeat on away goals by Tottenham over two legs.

“The departure in Europe was extremely bitter,” he explained. “But it would be wrong to mourn the Champions League after our domestic success. “If I can wish for something at club level for my future, then it is definitely to win the Champions League,” he added.

Injuries have limited Gundogan to 31 Germany caps since his debut in 2011, and the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder says he hopes to take on further responsibility on the international stage in the near future.

“My goal is to get the same level in the Germany jersey and then take on a more important role,” he added.”I have no problem at all to take even greater responsibility from now on.”
