‘Do Not Import Conning Politics to Jubilee’ Ruto tells Raila

Deputy President William Ruto has intensified his vocal attacks on the Opposition Chief Raila Odinga days after the latter was mentioned in the stormy fake gold scandal.

Ruto accused Raila’s political brokers of being behind the fake gold scandal news that has hit the country over the past one week. Ruto challenged Raila to reveal what he intended to conceal when he secretly approached President Uhuru Kenyatta over the matter.

He was referring to a leaked tape purportedly having Mr. Wetang’ula telling the alleged con victim from Dubai that he would contact the President and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

While he warned against dragging Uhuru’s name in the debacle, he launched a thin-veiled attack against Raila Odinga who through the handshake has been seen as ‘part of government’ saying:

“I tell our brothers in the opposition not to import their bad habits to Jubilee; they should shun engaging in dirty deals, corruption and conning others,” he said.

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu who accompanied Ruto also questioned the integrity of the opposition Chief claiming he cannot afford to lecture some leaders on corruption “while he was busy swindling others of their money”.

Other leaders roped in Interior CS Fred Matiang’i saying he should also explain how the country’s security was protecting the premises with fake gold.

According to Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, the Interior CS to step aside over the scandal.

“How can you use General  Service Unit to safeguard the home of those involved in the criminal activity?” she posed adding that the Parliamentary Security Committee would summon him to explain to the country the extent of his involvement in the fake gold scandal.

Ruto reiterated his sentiments yesterday in Muanda, Bumula Constituency where he said those behind the scam that is likely to put the country in a diplomatic showdown with the United Arab Emirate’s royal family, were well-known people that had been in politics.

“These people are well-known and have evolved. They are now conning business people in the name of selling gold, which has turned out to be fake,” he said.

This comes at a time when  Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji has hinted at handing over the suspects mentioned in the scandal to the United Arab Emirates Authorities. Wetangula who is the major suspect at the center or the scandal left the country on Sunday to China for an official visit.
