Matchday 31 of the Kenya Premier League season produced its fair share of thrills, drama, goals and to some extent, not so good behaviour(am looking at you AFC Leopards fans). A few lessons were taught, both on the pitch and off it so without wasting let’s crack into the best of them.

AFC Leopards need divine intervention

In the first leg of this season’s mashemeji derby, AFC Leopards meek display in a 2-0 loss was excused due to the fact that they had just hired a new coach and were in a transition period. On Sunday though, Ingwe were clearly no match for the Champions elect and if anything served up an even worse performance than in the first leg.

With new players on board and Cassa Mbungo’s tactics now well and truly in effect, Ingwe still cannot win a football match against Gor Mahia. They have become Gor Mahia’s punching bag and it is sad to watch. Their fans resulted into ripping off the seats at the Kasarani stadium as a sign of their anger but maybe it is about time they tried something different, like divine intervention? Surely it is worth a try now!

Karibangi Sharks need to get their act together

The Sportpesa Super Cup Champions have won just once in 14 league assignments. That run of form gets you relegated at any league in the world but luckily for William Muluhya’s side, there are worse teams in the Kenyan top flight league at the moment.

It says a lot about their current state that Sunday’s 3-2 loss to KCB could still be viewed as a positive because they scored twice! With a match against Everton on the horizon, Sharks need to find some form or else they will embarrass the nation in front of the whole world!

Bandari mean business

Yet another Kenya Premier League matchday, yet another 3 points for Bandari FC. The coastal based side has won four in a row and now sit second on the log with 61 points, four clear of third-placed Sofapaka. Bernard Mwalala’s side showed very good signs at the start of the season but dipped midway through.

They have finally rediscovered that early season form that had pundits terming them as title contenders and with a few good additions in the offseason transfer window, they might give Gor Mahia a good race for the title next season. This league desperately needs that!

Mount Kenya facing the inevitable

Let’s face it, any team that hands two walkovers in the course of one season deserves to be relegated. Mount Kenya United has been in turmoil for months and has lost their past five league matches! Relegation was finally confirmed after their loss to Sony Sugar during the weekend but we all saw it coming.

Maybe a season in the National Super League will revitalise the club but you would not put money on that happening based on the current season, would you?

GINIWASEKAO!

Saving the best for last eh? Football is a game played over 90 minutes and in the end, Gor Mahia wins the Kenyan Premier League. Hassan Oktay’s side is all but confirmed as Champions for the third consecutive season. They have been miles ahead of any team in the land and the results are there for all to see.

Gor Mahia’s dominance in the league for the past couple of years can be compared to that of Barcelona in Spain or Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga. Like they say in their native language, Giniwasekao(This one is already taken.)
