Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has been under pressure since the fake gold scandal unfolded. Being at the centre of the scam after his audio conversation with the alleged Dubai contact leaked, the Ford Kenya party leader has been at pains to explain his role in the deal.
Following pressure mounted unto him on social media, Wetang’ula has flown out of the country to China, with some Kenyans now speculating that he is running away from the probe.
Senator Wetangula escaped from the country to China last night. Jared Otieno was arrested because of a “loan” with a Chinese man.
Jared was apparently not involved in the UAE gold scam but is being used to mask the true powerful scammers.

But Confirming Wetangula’s departure, Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka told Nation that he was part of a House delegation to Hong Kong.
“He is out of the country on Senate business in Hong Kong,” Lusaka disclosed.
Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti has confirmed the senator’s involvement in the Dubai gold scam.
He explained that his team was conducting investigations to establish whether the politician was a victim or an accomplice in the deal that has now gone sour.
DPP Haji on his part directed the Police IG Hillary Mutyambai to expedite the investigation and forward the file to him within seven days.
