For the first time in his career, Enosh Ochieng has earned a national team call up, being named in the 30 – man provisional squad for the 2020 CHAN qualifiers which come right after the 2019 African Cup of Nations finals and he sees this as a chance to continue with his growth as a player.
Deployed as a winger for the better part of this season, Enosh has been the epitome of everything good that has come out of the team and he is currently the lead scorer at the team and second on the log in the Kenyan Premier League on 16 goals, two behind Kakamega Homeboyz’s Allan Wanga.
As the season draws to a close, with four matches to go, he has already surpassed his best ever campaign, in 2014, when he scored seven goals while at Muhoroni Youth and his impressive campaign has been christened with Harambee Stars head coach Sebastien Migne’s recognition.
He terms it a big feat already, and while most felt his performance warranted a place in the AFCON team, Enosh is sticking with the positives, only looking forward to learning more and improving on his skill.
“I am happy. Like any player, I have ambitions, and to be handed a national team call is not a mean feat. There is a big pool of players in KPL and I was among the players considered so that is not a mean feat. I am very positive as I head into the future, this being my first ever call up.
“It is a good learning chance for me and reflects positively on the season I have had. I try to learn something new every day and now I have a big chance. I say I am ready for this challenge and I approach it positively and with an open mind,” he said.
As he gears for his first appearance in national team colors, Enosh knows he has a responsibility to Ulinzi Stars as well and in the four remaining matches, he says he wants to give all for the team to finish strongly.
“It has not been a good season for us. The past few matches particularly have not been good and even as the national team call up sinks in, I know I have a duty to help my team. I can’t forget that. The motivation that comes from the call up is what I want to transfer to helping the team finish strongly in the remaining matches,” he added.
