Interior CS Fred Matiang’i is considered as the most performing Minister in the Jubilee government. That is why he was rewarded with the position of Super Minister by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
But Matiang’i reputation is about to be ruined by the infamous fake gold scandal that has rocked the government in recent weeks. The CS has been heavily mentioned as one of the key players in the scam that saw a Saudi Royal family lose close to 400million shillings.
In a leaked audio that has since gone viral on social media, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula mentions Matiang’i, President Kenyatta and Raila as the senior government officials who would ensure that confiscated gold is delivered to Dubai.
Matiang’i has also been asked to explain how a house in which boxes of fake gold was confiscated last week, was being guarded by GSU. The police is under the Interior Ministry and it is believed the officers had Matiangi’s instructions to guard the house.
It is for these reasons that politicians allied to the Tanga Tanga team have asked the CS to step aside and allow investigations into the scam continue.
According to the team, there is no way the investigations can continue with Matiang’i giving directions yet he has been implicated.
‘Matiang’i utachukuaje GSU kulinda nyumba ya watu ambao wanaendesha biashara ya Magendo? Hufai kua Minister wa Internal Security? You must step aside.’ Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa said on Saturday.

In a separate interview, Zaheer Jhanda, one of the players in the accused a section of Tanga Tanga MPs of asking him to implicate Matiangi and Raila in the scam.
“I have been approached by four Rift Valley MPs to implicate Raila and Matiangi.” Jhanda said during an interview with a local daily.
