Raila on why the engine of Africa sleeps in the DRC

The African Union (AU) envoy for roads and Infrastructure development in Africa Raila Odinga who is currently on a tour to the Democratic Republic of Congo has expressed his concern on why he thinks the engine of Africa is in the DRC.

According to the ODM leader, the Felix Tshisekedi-led Country is currently the largest power producer in Africa.

With the new discovery of Inga 8 and 10, the project stands stipulated to produce 110,000MW of power.

This asserts Inga as the number 1 energy project on the continent.

Due to this, Raila who shared the information through his twitter account on Sunday morning says “we therefore must take ownership of the project as a continent.”

“The engine of Africa sleeps in the DRC. With the new discovery of Inga 8 & 10, the project stands stipulated to produce 110,000MW of power. This asserts Inga as the number 1 energy project on the continent and we therefore must take ownership of the project as a continent,” read his post.

Raila on Saturday also held talks in Kinshasa with President Felix Tshisekedi  on the construction of the Kinshasa- Brazzaville bridge that is part of the Tripoli- Cape Town Trans Africa Highway.

They also discussed the Inga Dam whose completion is critical for Africa.
