There is an ongoing Internet joke in Kenya regarding Kamaus and Omondis. When you Google Omondi stole my phone on Google, the search engine redirects you and asks you; Did you Mean Kamau Stole My Phone?

It’s a typical Kenyan stereotype that people from Nyanza don’t steal but those from central kenya love money very much.

So it is surprising that no Kikuyu has been mentioned in the recent Fake Gold Scandal that has rocked the Kenyan government. Police have arrested Jared Otieno (a Luo), as the mastermind of the scam that saw a Saudi Royal Family lose close to sh400 million.

This has prompted the question on whether Kikuyus have lost their culture, or they have just shared it to their Nyanza brothers in the spirit of the handshake.

Let us also not forget that it was Eric Adede, (another Luo) who was the chief suspect in the famous sh2 billion Fake Money Scandal at Barclays Bank Queen’s Way Branch. Have Luos become the masterminds of Wash-wash in Kenya?

Some people on social media argue that the Mt. Kenya region is not losing its culture. It has just perfected it to a point they do not get caught in the act. Yaani, wanaiba lakini hawashikwi.

It should be noted that no Kikuyu was mentioned in the famous Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal where Henry Rotich approved the payment of 21 billion to a firm that had filed for bankruptcy. Some of the money was used to buy towels.

Is this a good sign or bad?
