Former Kenyan and now U.S marathon runner, Haron Lagat, has written a lovely message to his wife on his Instagram page. The two live in Widefield, Colorado.
The message read,
The first time I saw her, my heart whispered, “She’s the one.. she brings the best out of me. #Wifey#blessed#myalltime#love#she
Lagat has been living in the USA since 2004. He grew up in Moiben, Kenya-26 miles north of Eldoret. At the age of 19, he went to the United States to attend Texas Tech.
He paced races to help pay his bills-sometimes up to 25 races a year. His ability in the steeplechase made him in particular demand as he went through Diamond League races all over the world. In 2015, his visa expired and he decided to enlist in the U.S Army.
In the summer of 2016, he attended boot camp and finally earned his citizenship when he was at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri.
On December 13 of that year, Lagat sent in his paperwork to USATF to formally change his allegiance from Kenya to the United States. The process was marred with a lot of controversies but he was able to finally granted the permission to compete for the United States late last year.
