Kenya, Tanzania sign agreement to boost the film production industry

Kenya and Tanzania will this morning sign a co-production collaborative framework for co-productions at the 72nd International Cannes Film Festival at Pavillon Afriques.

The MOU between Kenya Film Classification Board and BusyBee Productions of Tanzania will outline collaborative activities geared towards co-productions that enhance shared cultural diversity and values while leveraging on Kiswahili as the lingua franca of the region.

This agreement will be signed by the Kenya Film Classification Board CEO Ezekiel Mutua and the Tanzanian Busybee Productions MD Mr. Ernest R Napoleon and will be witnessed by film producers from the continent at the Pavillon Afriques in Cannes.

The MOU also provides a framework for exposing our youths to the global markets and enhancing collaboration between Kenya and Tanzania as well as other countries in the Eastern Africa region, Africa as a whole and the world film markets.

This agreement seeks to leverage on the East African Community expanded business and trade as well as political ties while promoting our shared values through film.

This move will greatly contribute to the development of the Kenyan Film Industry and equally place it on the map to compete with other productions globally.

The Kenyan Film Industry has generally seen a rise with some of the films, recently earning recognition beyond the borders.

Teaming up with other countries will also expand the audience for Kenyan films and go a long way to market the productions on the International level.
