“If Uhuru endorses you, forget about the presidency!” Khalwale tells Ruto

Just days after announcing his defection to Jubilee party from Ford Kenya, former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has advised Deputy president against seeking endorsement from President Uhuru Kenyatta terming it a bad omen that might cost him the presidency.

Speaking on Friday, May 17, 2019, Khalwale gave Deputy President William Ruto an account of how candidates who were endorsed by outgoing presidents have never won the presidency in Kenya’s history.

Khalwale gave an example of President Uhuru Kenyatta who was endorsed by former President Daniel Moi in 2002 and lost to former President Mwai Kibaki.

He also claimed that Mwai Kibaki endorsed Musalia Mudavadi in 2013 general elections. Mudavadi came a distant third with 483,981 votes in the election conducted on 4 March 2013.

Mr. Khalwale said president Uhuru Kenyatta’s endorsement will not be different. He assured whoever will be endorsed by Mr. Kenyatta to prepare for a defeat in 2022.

If all goes well and the President keeps his promise, he will endorse his Deputy William Ruto for the Presidency come 2022. In the recent past, DP Ruto’s allies have in many occasions urged the President not to betray his deputy.
