Morgan Heritage announces new Initiative amid Buju Banton Visit rumours

Morgan Heritage are in Nairobi, the place they call their ‘second home’ and this time they have something special for their legion of fans.

The Grammy-winning reggae group sat before the members of the press today (17.05.2019) to announce a new initiative by the Morgan Heritage Foundation, the charity concert dubbed the ‘Tomorrow Leaders Festival.’ The concert slated for 8th June is set to take place at the Kasarani Stadium. The festival is slated to be a global initiative festival to raise funds for youth leadership programs across Africa and Jamaica with benefactors including Save The Children, UNICEF, UNESCO, UNODC, OXFAM International, Shofco, Joy Divine several other non governmental organizations.

At the press conference, Mojo Morgan went on to explain that the non-profit concert is set to raise funds for a number of projects for the benefit of Africa’s youth. Zeroing in on social issues affecting the youth, the concert hopes to change the game in community services, creating sustainable and innovative approaches to help the ever-increasing jobless youth, hoping to make ends meet in spite of living below the poverty line. Speaking about how they thought up the idea of a concert, Mojo explained “We were discussing as brothers, what can we do in this stage of our career to really impact humanity because we are aware of the influence our lyrics have on the youth. We wanted to bring all of our peers together, and shine a light on what is going on with the youth.”

He added “We Morgan Heritage are doing this festival because we’ve identified the need for a conscious effort to be pushed forward to educate, empower and create opportunities that puts the youth on a path toward success for generations to come. So we’re asking the world to help us help the children across Africa and Jamaica where this movement to save a generation has started.”

Speaking about the fake news surrounding the impending concert, Peetah and Mojo Morgan reiterated that the posters that have been making the rounds online contained misleading information. Mojo went on to add, that Buju Banton is interested in coming to Kenya, but is yet to confirm. Kenyan mega group Sauti Sol is also notably out of the performers’ list. The official line up for the concert so far includes Morgan Heritage, Jemere Morgan, Jose Chameleon, Stone Bwoy, Alaine, Yemi Alade, Diamond Platnumz, Wyre Da Love Child, Naiboi, Rophan and many more yet to be announced.

Speaking about their involvement so far, both Naiboi and Wyre were excited about their opportunity to share the stage with the legendary group. As major Kenyan acts, they also emphasized that the concert’s social impact is a great cause to be associated with. When asked about the music standards and trends that have seen songs that perpetuate violence against women, Naiboi said “we should encourage freedom of expression” while Wyre cautioned, “there are many wrongs that artists make to get their name out there.”
