It can lead to fatal consequences if not dealt with properly.

High blood pressure is a condition which shows no symptoms. If you do not work towards managing it with diet and exercise, it can lead to heart disease and stroke in the long run.

For starters, hypertension is another name for high blood pressure, where blood pressure in the arteries is persistently elevated.

The theme of 2019 World Hypertension Day is Pima Pressure— “Know your numbers.” Its purpose is to raise awareness worldwide about the importance of knowing what is your blood pressure measurement.

According to the ministry of Health, most deaths due to cardiovascular diseases are preventable through screening, early diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Unhealthy diets, inadequate physical activity, harmful use of alcohol, tobacco use and exposure to tobacco smoke are major contributing factors for high blood pressure.

Hypertension is the number one killer in the world. Most cases are lifestyle related and salty processed foods.

“Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death worldwide killing 17.5 million people every year. In Kenya, it is estimated that approximately 100, 000 people die due to cardiovascular diseases every year,” stated a report by the Ministry of Health.
