The man, Joseph Ochieng, who said he had only known Pauline on FaceBook and that they had never met apart from the fateful night, admitted to killing her.

Detectives who have been on the chase since the body of Pauline was discovered at her Kiharu house in Murang’a cornered the suspected in Kericho.

Mr Ochieng got into police radar after a CCTV footage at Ms Wangari’s house revealed his face as he exited the house just moments after the murder.

Ochieng was pictured leaving the premise at 3 am after she had planted items that, in his mind, he thought could make police think of the crime was suicide.

However, police would soon after entering the apartment realize the glaring inconsistencies at the crime scene.

Ms Wangari had knife stabs to her head, neck and abdomen. However, at the time police came in to examine the body, she had a knife attached to her hand and a roll of bhang inserted into her mouth.

Police concluded that the suspected may have planted the items, ostensibly to scuttle any investigations that may have led to his (suspect) arrest and possible prosecution.

Ochieng has since been detained for 14 days as detectives ‘milk’ more details from him. Detectives are also looking at whether the murder was premeditated or otherwise.
