Funny incidences that happen during AFC Leopards vs Gor Mahia face off

Once again the biggest rivarly in the country will take centre stage, Mashemeji Derby pitting AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia will be played On Sunday 19 May at Moi Kasarani.

They have been interesting and sad moments in the 85 times that the sides have faced off in history.We look at what happens behind the scenes:

Stewards staying overnight in the stadium

On several occasions, AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia stewards spend the night before the meeting. The stewards spend the night there to ensure that the pitch is protected from instances of witchcraft. Some of the stewards say that there are instances where people have sneaked with corpses in the pitch.

Both teams avoiding changing rooms

In most derbies, both AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia avoid the changing room. A good example is during the 1-1 draw at Nyayo Stadium on 27 August 2017. The teams used the buses as the changing rooms and went on to line up in the tunnel. The teams avoid the rooms due to superstitions that the rooms may have been affected by evil powers.

Avoiding to use the VIP gates  

The teams are also restrained from using the VIP gates on several occasions. On several instances, Leopards players use the Russia gate same as their fans same to Gor Mahia players.  The players then walk across the pitch before warm up.

Scouts of both K’Ogalo and Ingwe were notorious for blowing dust to match officials before they got on to the pitch, which was believed to counter any powers that the opposition might have used to win the match.

Whenever the derby is held at Nyayo Stadium gate six where regular AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia sit close to each other is always lit. The fans end up engaging in verbal fights chaos usually erupts.

In 2017 before the elections it however different as they would embrace each other and sing NaSA tunes together.
