Few days ago, we all witnessed Machakos governor Alfred Mutua closing down companies polluting River Athi, now just like his counterpart,Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has directed the closure of 25 companies polluting Nairobi River.
Speaking while supervising the on-going clean up exercise of Nairobi River dubbed “Ngarisha Jiji”, Sonko accused the companies of discharging effluent and other harmful chemicals into the river despite several warnings.
‘‘Those companies releasing their chemicals and waste in to Nairobi must be closed immediately we are not going to allow them to continue operating.’’ Sonko noted.
To emphasize his point, Mike Sonko took to his facebook page to issue a sterning warning to polluters of Nairobi river.
“My government together with other Gov’t agencies including NEMA shut down at least 25 factories which discharge effluent into Nairobi river. Other three factories to be shut down this evening”He wrote.
He further directed closure of all hospitals fond of carrying out illegal abortions be shut down and their licences cancelled.
According to Sonko his government will not sit down and watch rogue health facilities joking with human life and disposing bodies into the river.
Nairobi City County Environment Minister Veska Kangogo and Chief Officer security and compliance Tito Kilonzi have been tasked by the governor to ensure the directives are effected promptly without delays.
Nairobi county government has so far retrieved more than three bodies from Nairobi river a clear indication that it is being used as a dumping site of aborted babies and even newborns.
