As the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) investigates the awarding of a Sh40 billion tender to a Chinese firm to construct the Kipevu Oil Terminal in Mombasa, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has reshuffled 16 senior officials.
Among the 16, at least three officials under investigation over the Sh40bn Kipevu scandal are affected.
The unusual awarding of the contract attracted the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) into the matter, in addition to allegations that the cost of the project was inflated from Sh15 billion to Sh25 billion, and then to Sh40 billion.
The first-ever woman MD at KPA, Mturi-Wairi, who was sacked in May last year for alleged non-performance said the tendering for the construction of the terminal was done in October when she had left the organisation.
“I left towards the end of May last year and apparently the tender was in October. I have no idea what they want, therefore I cannot say much.”
The interrogations kicked off on April 4, when engineer Rashid Salim, Adza Dzengo and Geoffrey Kavete were grilled.
