Homa Bay residents have been living in fear for the past few months due to the absence of their governor Cyprian Awiti who has been in and out of hospital suffering from blindness.
Awiti, who has been out of the limelight since his re-election in 2017, recently handed over the county affairs to his deputy Hamilton Orata, in order to seek medical attention abroad.
He didn’t appear before the Senate’s Public Accounts Committee when he was summoned to answer Audit queries this week
The committee which is chaired by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang has given Awiti 3o days to appear before it with copies of his travel documents as well as a medical report to justify his absence.
Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti has written to @KESenate that he is seeking treatment out of the country and requested a new date for consideration of the 2017/2018 @OAG_Kenya report. We've given 30 days for the Governor to appear, failure to which the law shall take its course. pic.twitter.com/CkG3gnwr0B

Details have now emerged that Awiti’s is blaming his opponent Joseph Magwaga for bewitching, leading to the total blindness.
Magwaga was the governor’s chief challenger in the 207 elections and successfully lodged a petition which led to the Awiti’s win being annulled at both the High Court and Court of Appeal. Only the Supreme Court Saved Awiti from a by-election
The High Court ruled that the IEBC did not conduct a free and fair election in Homa Bay. According to IEBC’s disputed results, Awiti got 210,173 votes while Magwanga came second with 189,060 votes.
After the Supreme court decision, Magwanga told his supporters to give the governor support until the end of his term in office.
“My supporters should let the governor serve till 2022. Give them ample time to do his duties,” he said in a phone interview.
Could he have gone behind the scenes to use African Magic and make Awiti blind?
