Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) on Tuesday camped at the Kenya Revenue Authority offices in Mombasa since early morning.
KRA Coast region coordinator Nicholas Kinoti, however said the officers were conducting a “normal” routine check in ongoing investigations on the tax evasion scandal that has hit the taxman.
On Friday, 75 tax agents were arrested at the KRA headquarters in Nairobi on suspicion of abetting tax evasion and bribery.
Only 38 were arraigned on Monday and will remain in custody for two weeks. They appeared in the Court all clad in hoodies and sunglasses.
Someone (obviously highly placed) within KRA leadership bought these watu wa mikono hoodies to conceal their identities. The hoodies are probably part of the privileges that you enjoy when working for the big man. pic.twitter.com/VkqetUtiNJ
