Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko hinted Monday at a presidential run after his second term.

Expressing confidence in a victory in 2027, the flamboyant governor compared himself to Ukraine’s president-elect Volodymyr Zelenskiy  who was elected in a landslide victory against the incumbent Petroleum Porochenko.

He also mentioned the election of a DJ who was elected president in Madagascar and a footballer who rose to become Liberia’s president.

Sonko’s political career has been characterised by stunning upset victories.

He first came to parliament after falling out with the ODM leadership over claims of being rigged out of nominations.

In 2013, he was elected Nairobi senator and in 2017 as the capital’s governor.

His administration has been rocked by claims of corruption which he has strongly rebuffed, saying that the claims are being made by those on a political witch hunt.
