”Dockers” Bandari FC demolish Chemelil as Mwama scores a brace

Sportpesa Shield finalists Bandari came from a goal down to register a deserved 3-1 win over Chemelil Sugar in a thrilling SportPesa Premier League match at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa on Tuesday.

Bandari’s Yema Mwama emerged the star of the match scoring a brace, with David King’atua adding the third. Chemelil had taken the lead via Richard Oti.

Bandari head coach Bernard Mwalala said the victory was a morale booster in their fight to finish the league in second place.

“We are trying our best to make sure we finish in second or third position,” said Mwalala.

Chemelil head coach Francis Baraza said they lost the match on their own mistakes, blaming his defenders for blunders that resulted in all the three goals.

“We conceded the first goal through a goalkeeper blunder and the defenders made stupid mistakes in conceding the other two goals,” he said.

The game started with the visitors making inroads and were rewarded in the sixth minute when Bandari defender Dan Guyo handled the ball inside the box and Richard Oti made no mistake from the penalty kick.

From then on, Bandari took control and within four minutes Abdalla Hassan missed two golden scoring chances when his shots went wide.

It was in the 17th minute that Bandari levelled when Chemelil goalkeeper Morgan Alure punched Shaaban Kenga’s powerful drive and Yema Mwama who was nearby, had an easy chance to place the ball into an empty net.

The Dockers continued to pile on the pressure and managed to secure their second goal in the 31st minute when David King’atua scored from a penalty spot after the visitors’ defender Samuel Mpondo handled the ball inside the box.

In the 40th minute, Mwalala took off Abdallah Hassan and brought in Moses Mudavadi, who missed the target with a minute to half time.

In the second half, Bandari continued to dominate and managed to get the third goal in the 71st minute when Mwama beat Alure with a shot from a goalmouth melee.

Bandari hosts Tusker on Thursday in another Premier League clash. The two teams settled for a 1-1 draw in Nairobi in their first leg match.
