Liverpool chairman Tom Werner is optimistic that Jurgen Klopp’s side can go one better in the Premier League next season – and says the team will get stronger.

The Reds were pipped to the title by Manchester City on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s side beat Brighton 4-1 at The Amex Stadium to finish on 98 points, only one more than Liverpool.

The Anfield outfit only lost one Premier League game all season and yet that still wasn’t enough to see them end a 30-year wait for a top-flight league crown.

Nevertheless, Liverpool has won a lot of admirers despite falling agonizingly short, and Werner is hopeful that this ‘magical’ season will be better next term.

He told the club’s website: “It was a magical season. Obviously, we’re disappointed that we didn’t win the league but it was a remarkable season and the squad is exciting.

“I think that we’ve made a lot of friends around the world and I think we’ve done well by our supporters. I can’t say enough about Jurgen and all the talent on the field.

“We’re only going to get stronger. Ninety-seven points, it’s a remarkable year. We obviously didn’t win the league but we’ll be back next year and we’ve got a lot of motivation to win the league next year. I’m excited.”

The prospect of Liverpool getting even better is an exciting claim by Werner. He isn’t strictly hinting at transfers, though it seems obvious that Klopp will be allowed to invest.

Nevertheless, will Klopp be able to take the Reds to greater heights this season?
