Migori governor Okoth Obado blasted the public accounts committee of the Senate for the way they treated Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu saying the damage they caused is irreversible.

Waititu was accused of spending money on budgets not meant for Kiambu county like South Sudan Peace talks, State House budgets and Free Primary Education.

Obado said that such things cannot happen and subjecting Waititu to such ridicule was unfair.

‘I was sympathetic about what happened to Kiambu Governor. When a governor comes here and you decide to roast them on things that cannot happen it is very unfair. I saw how you were organised and how you were reading those things. The damage you caused is irreversible and I don’t know what you are benefitting from that.’

Obado said that the committee should not hoodwink Kenyans that it is only the governors who are corrupt.

The Migori county boss himself failed to convince the committee on how documents on how he spent KSh1.5 billion got burned in a procurement office in 2017.

The committee has instructed him to create the documents within the next seven days.

“I want to direct that you provide those documents to the Auditor General within seven days and then the auditor will submit them to this committee after they go through them,” said committee chair Moses Kajwang.

According to Business Daily, the county claimed that at the time of the fire incident, the procurement store contained tender documents, work tickets, payment vouchers, payment cashbooks, and bank statements.

Obado is facing a Ksh 2 billion corruption case, in which he is accused of wiring some money to the accounts of his kids who study abroad.
