Some cheeky Kenyans recently suggested that Mangororo Primary School could be the location of the famous Arror and Kimwarer Dams.

This is after pictures of students learning in flooded classroom went viral on social media. The mad walled classrooms, which looked like they had been borrowed from The River Between, also had no desks.

I wonder what Kenyans will say about the latest incident in which pupils from Busanja Primary school in Mt. Elgon have been forced to learn under a tree and some in the open field.

Mt. Elgon is one of the coldest regions in Kenya especially during this rainy season and learning in open fields is a real health hazard.

The school’s makeshift classrooms were blown off recently following heavy rainfall.

The school deputy principal Michael Kiterie says that the school which was started seven years ago by the community and has 210 pupils lacks enough classrooms.

β€œThe area Mp Fred Kapondi has promised to release Sh1.7 million next week for us to construct two permanent classrooms, we urgently need Sh200,000 to construct the two classes whose roofs were blown off, meanwhile we have rented a building near the school at Sh2,500 to act as the staff room to help us carry on with our administration work,” said Kiterie.

It is believed that there are several schools across the country, where pupils are learning under dilapidated classrooms. Primary Education is under the National government and all eyes are on Jubilee government to explain the next course of action.

The government is on the spotlight over the poor state of Primary schools, yet it has launched an ambitious plan to build affordable houses for all Kenyans. This looks like lack of priorities.
