Mike Sonko’s Nga’risha Jiji crew discovers decomposing body in Nairobi River

Cases of Insecurity has risen in Nairobi County and it’s environs, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s s Ng’a risha Jiji  workers, stumbled upon a dead body during a cleaning exercise.

The workers, who are part of the Ng’arisha Jiji exercise launched by the governor, found the body of the man along Ngong’ river near Kware ward in Embakasi South.

In a statement to newsrooms, Nairobi County Communications team revealed that with the revelation, the total number of decomposing bodies found in the river rose to four since the exercise commenced last year.

“The Nairobi county Ng’arisha Jiji officials have discovered the body of a middle-aged man along Ngong’ river near Kware ward in Embakasi South.

 

“This is the fourth body to be discovered since Governor Mike Sonko launched the Clean Nairobi River Initiative,” read the statement.

Embakasi South Sub-County Administrator John Saruni, who led the Ng’arisha Jiji the team during the discovery of the body, stated that they believe the middle-aged man could have died more than five days ago since the body had started decomposing.

“We came across the body at around 11am on Saturday morning and we managed to retrieve it before we alerted the police. We are now appealing to those living near river banks to take charge and stop polluting our rivers,” he stated.

Ngarisha Jiji, which was launched by the County’s First Lady Primrose Mbuvi, entails workers who unblock sewer lines, remove campaign posters and clear moulds of garbage among other functions across the city.

Speaking over the matter, Sonko revealed that he had sought the help of the police to aid in the handling of the bodies unearthed during the exercise.

“These are some of the challenges my people have been encountering while conducting massive cleaning of Nairobi rivers. I have called the police from the neighbourhood and they are assisting my people to remove the body from the river,” stated Sonko.
