Turkana Governor Nanok disowns Raila Odinga (Video)

ODM Vice Chairman Josephat Nanok has for the first time made allegations against his Boss ODM leader Raila Odinga.

On Saturday formally announced his intentions to dump the party which has sponsored him as governor in two successive elections, albeit in indirectly.

Governor Nanok, a former Council of Governors chair, has been leaning towards the Deputy President William Ruto, and has since minimised his association with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Nanok opposed impending constitutional changes being fronted by Raila, adding that all Rift Valley governors will rally behind Dr Ruto since ‘everybody in Kenya is talking about the region producing a president’.

“I don’t want to be governor by having the constitution changed. We must pave way for other people to lead. Those telling us about constitutional changes should spare us,” he said in reference to Raila’s constitutional amendment proposals.

But in Raila’s proposed changes, there is no where he has mentioned about extending terms for governors and presidents from the current two, thus prompting Nanok to add “We are waiting to see those proposed questions”.

The second term ODM governor also questioned Raila’s proposed third tier level of government, in which Mr Odinga has often been saying that it will help governors to pool more resources together.

“We don’t want a scenario where Turkana will be no more. That we are being told that we either operate from Eldoret or Nakuru. We have 14 governors in Rift Valley and we shall speak in one voice. We must bring presidency home.”

While ODM party has been descending on defiant party members, it has however rarely spoken about Nanok. He has snubbed several party meetings including National Executive Council meeting last week.

At Turkana on Saturday, he accompanied DP Ruto who was touring the region. The two opposed Raila’s proposed changes, insisting that they are meant to enrich leaders.
