Students Protest Land Grabbing amid Governor Event

Kisumu Governor, Anyang Nyon’go was supposed to attend a groundbreaking ceremony in which he was to launch the construction of the Kisumu Radiotherapy Centre.

Kisumu Medical Training College(KMTC) students, on Friday, demolished the tents and drunk sodas meant for the said event, in protest of a piece of land.

Led by their officials, the students stormed the grounds that the Kisumu Governor was expected later in the afternoon and caused a scene.

KMTC students held peaceful demonstration on grounds where the Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o was expected for a function.

In their protest, the students stated that the land where the cancer centre was to be constructed belonged to KMTC.

After their protest, they went back to their classes.

In March, Kenyatta University students protested a lecture that was ongoing at the institution’s Amphitheatre by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

The students chanted songs in praise of Kyadondo East MP Bobi Wine in solidarity to the Ugandan politician.

The students were yelling that the Ugandan president should respect human rights and step down.

They were later dispersed by police officers who used teargas on them.
