Sonko meets World Bank in Nairobi projects master plan

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Friday met with World Bank officials alongside county officials, in liberations on the Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project.

The project is set to strengthen urban services and infrastructure in the Nairobi metropolitan region, and is divided into four different components including: improving rail and road network, boosting trade by building markets as well as modernize disaster and emergency preparedness.

Also included in the plan are high-capacity buses for the bus rapid transit (BRT) system.

The initiative to reorganise the city transport is being undertaken by Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project (NaMSIP) and the ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development with funding from the World Bank.

The Public transport is for instance set for the major makeover with the planned roll-out of commuter trains expected in the next few months.
