Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has issued a warning to private businesses operating in his constituencies. He wants them to give priority to residents of the constituency during recruitment.

Babu laments that some industries in Embakasi are recruiting foreigners to perform jobs that can be perfectly executed by Kenyans.

“They are bringing in secretaries, welders, technicians, accountants, all of whom are readily available in the Kenyan job market.” The MP said on his social media handles.

He said that his office will not tolerate this vice going forward and that he will start a process to kick out foreigners who are stealing jobs from honest and deserving Kenyans.

“I take this opportunity to put them on notice. The law is clear on this issue. I will be writing to the Immigration Department to conduct an audit of these companies to establish whether these foreigners have valid work permits. We will drive out people who are in the country illegally stealing jobs from honest and deserving Kenyans!”

Embakasi is an Industrial Hub, home to several multi-national companies like Coca Cola, Statpack Industries and The Doshi Group of companies.

Amiran Communications, Kentainers Limited and Sphinx Pharmaceuticals are the other companies based in the constituency.

Babu is a Leader for the Youth for Africa Movement and is among the vocal leaders that have been calling for the youth to be involved in the continent’s affairs.

Last year, he disagreed with his ODM Party during the passing of the controversial Fuel Levy Bill, which subjected Kenyans to an 8% tax on Petroleum Products. He said that Wananchi have had enough.

He hopes to be President one day. And do that, he must leave a legacy in Embakasi.
