Be alert! These areas will receive devastating rains

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall beginning Wednesday through to Thursday to be experienced in Kwale, Mombasa and Kilifi counties.

The weatherman says Saturday through to Sunday, will see the coastal counties of Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, Taita Taveta and Southern part of Tana River county receiving moderately heavy rainfall.

The forecast released on Wednesday indicates that the coastal strip will receive more than 30 millimetres of rainfall in 24 hours. This according to the Director of Meteorological Services, Stella Aura is moderately heavy rainfall.

The Director has urged residents in the areas to watch out of flash floods and avoid, driving, wading or walking through fast moving water. She further warns that the heavy rains and strong winds may result in storm surges along the coast.

She called on fishermen and the marine industry to be on high alert.

In the advisory the Kenya Meteorological Department is asking the public to keep updated with information from the Department.

And in the seven day forecast, the Kenya Meteorological Department says the Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley including the Counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, UasinGishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia are expected to experience sunny intervals in the morning throughout the forecast period, while the Afternoon and evening will see the areas receive showers and thunderstorms over few throughout the forecast period.

The Northwestern including the Counties of Turkana, West Pokot and Samburu) is likely to experience mainly sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon throughout the forecast period.

“However, rains are expected over few places in the morning at the boarder of Kenya with S. Sudan and Uganda between Wednesday and Monday,” says the forecast released by the Weatherman.

Central Highlands, Nairobi area and the Counties of Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka are likely to experience early morning cloudiness with light rains over few places breaking into sunny intervals throughout the forecast period.

Afternoon and evening showers are expected over few places throughout the forecast period.

The Northeastern Counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo) is likely to experience mainly sunny intervals in the morning throughout the forecast period.

“However, morning rains expected over few places between Thursday and Monday at the boarder of Kenya with Ethiopia. Afternoon evening showers are expected over few places throughout the forecast period.”

The Southeastern Lowlands Counties of Kajiado, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos and Taita Taveta are likely to experience sunny intervals in the morning throughout the forecast period whle the Afternoon and evening will experience showers throughout the forecast period.

The Coastal Strip counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale are likely to experience showers over few places in the morning and afternoon evening over several places throughout the forecast period.
