Sh7,700 lands a Kisumu chief in hot soup

EACC detectives on Wednesday arrested Kisumu West Location Chief Mary Adhiambo for soliciting for a bribe to process letters of succession and late death certificate.

The chief reportedly demanded a Sh7,700 bribe to sign land documents for the family.

During the operation, the detectives recovered part of the treated cash at her residence .

She was however released on a cash bail of KES50,000

According to the complainant, the local administrator wanted Sh2,200 to fill a form given to the family by the department of lands in a succession matter.

Later on, she allegedly demanded for an extra Sh5,500 to write a confirmation letter,  before her arrest by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Kisumu office.

EACC detectives nabbed the accused while receiving the bribe following a tip off on Wednesday.

Wekesa added that the accused had refused to sign the papers until she is given the money.
