Police nab Mombasa criminal in Nairobi, DCI Kinoti assures investigations

Police have arrested a man who has been on the run since last December after a horrible assault on a woman in Kisauni, Mombasa.

During the incident, he gouged out her eyes. The man was arrested in Kayole, Nairobi where he is believed to have been hiding since then. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said the 28-year-old Victor Odhiambo Omanya allegedly assaulted a woman and gouged out her eyes during an attack in Kisauni, Mombasa.

DCI George Kinoti said the suspect is under interrogation over the said crime. He added the victim narrated to him of the incident during the launch of a Social Justice Center in Kisauni last month.

“The matter was brought to the attention of the DCI by the complainant (who spoke with a lot of emotion) while he joined other guests to launch a Social Justice Center in Kisauni,” the DCI said.

The Social Justice Centre was launched through the support of the UK government in collaboration with Haki Afrika Organisation. During the launch, DPP Noordin Haji promised to protect women’s rights. The programme is meant to enhance good working relationship between the public and state agencies.
