A 23-year-old man from Migori County committed suicide early Thursday after his ‘come-we-stay’ partner allegedly reunited with her ex-husband.
Collins Owuor Okumu’s body was found dangling from a rope tied to the roof of his house at Nyabisawa Village in Suna East Sub-County.
Upon making the discovery, his family members alerted police officers who arrived at the scene and moved the body to Migori Level 4 Hospital morgue.
The incident was confirmed by area chief Bernard Aliwa.
The administrator says it is suspected Okumu killed himself after a woman he was living with as his wife — for one month — got back together with her ex-husband on Wednesday, May 8.
The ex-couple’s reunion was preceded by a meeting, which resolved to have the former lovers reunite.
Okumu attended the meeting — organised by his partner’s family and that of her ex-husband — where he [Okumu] accepted a joint decision to let the woman, in her early 30s, reconcile with her ex-spouse.
The woman and her former husband, who had paid dowry, lived together for one year before parting ways.
Police claim the deceased had developed a habit of wife-snatching, and that he got his most recent lover — the third — through such a ploy.
