The Kisumu residents may have to wait alittle bit longer to have the Kisumu SGR revamped.

While speaking during a media update, Transport Cabinet Seretary James Macharia broke the bad news saying that the Sh15 billion meant to revamp the Nakuru-Kisumu railway line willnow be used for Naivasha-Malaba line  claiming that the Kisumu line is more damaged and may require more money to rebuild it.

” The reality is that the Nakuru-Kisumu line is not in good shape; it has 17 bridges, which have been vandalised, so it may require doing a new line altogether,”

In addition he said, We will have to weigh that against the fact that in future, we still have to do the SGR to Kisumu. The line is in very bad shape, so we may not possibly consider that option.”

The blow comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta returned from China without funding for the third phase of his signature standard gauge railway (SGR)— a critical segment of the Northern Corridor project that is supposed to link the port of Mombasa with the Great Lakes Region’s landlocked states.
