Will DP Ruto’s African Divine Sacco go the Ekeza way?

Deputy President William Ruto has asked church leaders to embrace Savings and Credit Co- Operatives (SACCOs) in a bid to improve their economic status.

But how safe is African Divine Sacco?

Recently Ekeza which is a church sacco was the lime light after it’s members were milked dry.

However, Dp Ruto who launched Africa Divine Sacco said that the government will always give churches the necessary support aimed at transforming their lives.

He said the government will continue to support co-operative societies, which in turn mobilize resources for the development of the country.

Dr Ruto said: “We know as members of the clergy you do not get enough money like other Kenyans. To help you, you should come up with a program of raising funds and later take loans when in need.”


He added: “SACCOs in Kenya have raised Shs 500 Billion and we want you as the Divine church to join in the mobilization of local resources through SACCOs so that we can fund our development.”

The Deputy President said there was need to mobilise local resources to fund the country’s development in additional to foreign loans and taxes.

Dr Ruto spoke at his Karen residence where he hosted more than 4,000 pastors from the church the African Divine Church (ADC) for a prayer service and launch of African Divine Clergy SACCO.

He was accompanied by MPs Mwambu Mabonga (Bumula), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Alice Wahome (Kandara), Mary Wamaua (Maragua), Malulu Injendi (Malava), Bernard Shinali (Ikholomani), Nixon Korir (Langata), Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), John Waluke (Sirisia),  Oscar Sudi (Kapseret) and former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale.

At the same time, The African Divine Church of Kenya has asked Dr Ruto and other political leaders  not to shy away from participating in the development of churches.

The Church’s Archbishop John Chabuga said they will continue to work with leaders in the development of all its places of worship for the sake of the spread of the Gospel.

Archbishop Chabuga said the first commitment to any leader was to serve God.

“We will continue to work with politicians among other leaders on matters of church development,” he said.
