Van Djik’s Trick That Silenced Messi The Entire Match

Liverpool’s victory over Barcelona could be regarded by many as miraculous and unexpected.

However, Liverpool showed a tactical display, meaning the victory was more of hard work than a miracle.

Georginio Wijnaldum scored two quick goals in the second half to pull Liverpool even with Barcelona on aggregate.

The Reds were organized from the defenders to their strikers. In fact, they dominated the match from beginning to end.

Unlike in the first leg where Liverpool’s defense was a bit porous and Lionel Messi rode the defenders as he wished.

Barcelona managed to beat them 3-0, leaving Klopp and his boys helpless and weak to proceed to the final.

However, Vigil Van Djik seemed to learn from his mistakes and came back prepared to tackle Messi.

Fortunately, he managed to assemble his troops to surround Leo whenever he touched the ball.

With this tactic, Messi was held hostage and could not do his dribbling and shooting tricks.

Van Djik was recently awarded the PFA player of the year and he could soon get another reward for leading Liverpool to success in the Champions League.
