Uhuru releases another bunch of millions for schools, hospitals affected by SGR

Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is among a few projects that President Uhuru Kenyatta has heavily invested in.

The SGR line which runs from Mombasa to Nairobi has affected some the communities around it.

President Uhuru’s Kenyatta’s government has released a total of Ksh 467.9 to move a secondary school and a hospital to move away from the line. The area affected is Kibwezi Makueni County.

This is after the managements of the two facilities — Kathekani Secondary School and Mtito Andei Hospital — wrote to Kenya Railways asking to be relocated due to noise disturbance from the trains that pass nearby.

Kathekani Secondary School board Chairman Mr. Michael Mung’ata said Kenya Railways had agreed to their request, saying the relocation will take place over the next one year.

Kibwezi Sub-County Director of Education Kennedy Machora confirmed the plans, saying the school will be newly constructed at a cost of Ksh.225.5 million while the hospital will cost Ksh.242.4 million.

This all in efforts of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s efforts.
