They were said to have drunk the brew at a local drinking den on Tuesday morning before complaining of severe stomach-ache and vomiting.

“We were attracted by cries of young men in one of the houses in the village. When we rushed to the house commonly referred to as kwa Mama Pima, we found four young men writhing in pain after consuming Koroga,” said a Nyumba Kumi leader who requested not to be named.

Soy OCPD Alex Mwaura, who confirmed the deaths, said the police had launched investigations into the incident.

He said the police are also looking for the owner of the house who was said to have fled after the incident.

“We have received the report of the two deaths after allegedly drinking local brew, investigations have commenced. We will take action against those involved once the investigations are concluded,” said Mr Mwaura.

The other four, who were said to be in critical condition, were rushed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

Kerotet village residents accused local leaders and police of laxity in the fight against the illicit brews in the area.

“Due to rampant consumption of illicit alcohol in this area, young men who spend most of their time at drinking dens, have abdicated their roles at home,” said the Nyumba Kumi leader.

The bodies were taken to the MTRH mortuary.
