Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has declared that he is ready for a pay cut because he believes politicians take home too much money.

” I am willing to get my salary reduced to match the economy so that we have more money going towards development – which is what our youth want.” The governor said in Machakos on Tuesday.

Mutua castigated MPs who are demanding for hire salaries, saying that the economy is not doing well.

“I do NOT support the plan to increase the salaries and packages of Members of Parliament. Our economy is not doing well. We have massive unemployment, low circulation of money and Kenyans are feeling overburdened by heavy taxation”

Kenyan lawmakers are set to start taking home a salary of 1.3 million per month after the Parliamentary Service Commission increased the salary budget for the next fiscal year by 200 million to 5.6 billion.

The governor who has declared his interest in running for Presidency in 2022, recently launched the #Tumechoka Movement which is aimed at fighting corruption in Kenya.

Under his Maendeleo Chap Chap Party, Mutua has been advocating for more funds to reach Mwananchi’s pockets.
