Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa’s actions against ODM Secretary General Aisha Jumwa over the weekend continue to elicit different views among Kenyans and a number of leaders.

While others see Aisha as a brave woman who stood for what is right, others have castigated her for embarrasing herself in public.

Kwale Woman Rep Zuleikha Juma has condemned Jumwa for snatching a microphone from Sifuna when he was addressing mourners. Juma said the incident was disrespectful and totally meant to cast ODM in bad light.

“It wasn’t just against the SG, it was against the image of the party. Politicians make all matter of statements at funerals, what does respecting Mijikenda have to do with it? Aisha Jumwa doesn’t have a monopoly on the community,” she said.

In a statement the legislator said if Aisha thought Sifuna had said something offensive, she could have sent him a note or gone and whispered to him instead of taking away the microphone.

An angry Aisha Jumwa openly told Sifuna to get another platform to address ODM issues and not the funeral since that was like a sign of disrespect to the Mijikenda Community.

While revisiting the matter yesterday, Aisha Jumwa explained that she barred Mr Sifuna from speaking about ODM matters because the people recognise Governor Kingi as the party’s chairman in Kilifi.

Aisha said that during the campaigns, Sifuna was not seen anywhere in Kilifi and as such he has no moral authority to speak about ODM and it’s regulations in Kilifi.

Aisha Jumwa on Sunday also stated that she is ready to take the bullet for the sake of protecting the Mijikenda community against outsiders.
