NTSA launches Global Road Safety Week

The National Transport and Safety Authority, NTSA has launched the 5th UN Global Road Safety Week 2019 on Monday in Nairobi to create awareness on road safety.

NTSA is joined with other stakeholders to launch action through the ongoing campaign: Save Lives – #SpeakUp under the theme: Leadership for Road Safety”

Reports indicate that between 3000 and 13 000 Kenyans lose their lives in road traffic crashes every year.

The majority of these people are vulnerable road users.

According to UN website, strong leadership is needed to advance road safety in countries and communities and achieve zero road accidents.

During the one week campaign, stakeholders will concentrate on the concrete interventions which have proven to save lives.

Such measures include improving road safety management; making roads, vehicles and road users safe; and enhancing emergency care following a crash.

Whether we travel as pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists or drivers, all of us – as parents, students, employees, volunteers and concerned citizens – can be leaders for road safety.
